Training and Educational Opportunities
We offer opportunities for multi-disciplinary asthma care teams to embed National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) Guidelines as the standard of care delivered to all patients with asthma.
The Asthma Educator Institute
The American Lung Association’s Asthma Educator Institute™ (AEI) is a preparatory course for individuals that want to implement asthma guidelines-based care and those qualified to take the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB) examination. The American Lung Association Asthma Educator Institute™ was developed in January of 2003 and mirrors the National Institute of Health, Expert Panel Report 3: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma. The course is also a great refresher for AE-C’s preparing for recertification.
- Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the pathophysiology of the asthma condition
- Describe the patient and family assessments related to asthma care
- Discuss steps in the development, implementation, and evaluation of an asthma management plan
- Describe medications used in asthma management
- Observe and demonstrate selected procedures in asthma assessment and care
- Describe organizational issues (program outcomes, referral & networking) in asthma care
- And so much more!
Training Events
The American Lung Association’s Asthma Basics program is offered as a live, virtual workshop. The program is ideal for frontline healthcare professionals, such as school nurses or community health workers, as well as individuals with asthma, parents of children with asthma, and co-workers, friends, and family who want to learn more about Asthma.
